How To Choose The Best Coffee Maker For Your Family

Nowadays there are many types of coffee makers but they are all designed to achieve one end, to mix the coffee grounds with water at the correct temperature, and then allow the liquid to be separated from the used grounds. Even the simplest and least expensive coffee makers are capable of making an excellent brew if used correctly, but more expensive coffee machines may make brewing your coffee more convenient. An event manager who also knew much about the coffee club New Zealand and the coffee club Auckland provided the following information.

Perhaps the simplest coffee maker is the Cafeteria or French Press. This consists of a chamber, usually made of glass but occasionally stainless steel, with a plunger acting as the filtration system. The ground coffee is mixed with the hot water, allowed to steep for the required time and then the plunger is gently pushed down so that the coffee can be poured. A wonderful cup of coffee can be made this way with perhaps the only drawbacks being the fact that the coffee must be enjoyed straight away and that there are the messy grounds to clear up afterwards.

The filter or coffee drip machine is perhaps a step up in convenience and expense in the coffee brewing stakes. Here the grounds are placed into a paper filter (although some machines have permanent plastic or metal filter) and the water is heated in a separate chamber before being fed onto the ground coffee. The liquid drips into a carafe which sits on a heated plate. These machines make brewing coffee a very simple process and some have timers so that you can wake up to a freshly brewed coffee at breakfast. Some of these coffee machines can be quite expensive and you do have the waste to clear up afterwards. However if you are using paper filters these can be lifted out complete with all the grounds and put into the waste bin, or better still if you are a keen gardener into your composting bin. Although the heated plate will keep the coffee warm it is better to consume your coffee fresh and not leave the coffee to stew after which it will not be at its best.

The single cup maker or coffee pod machine is the last one we will examine here. These are very simple to use. The pod or capsule contains just enough coffee for one cup so all you have to do is to switch the machine on and after the water has reached the correct temperature press a button and the correct amount of water will be fed through the coffee and into your cup. Cleaning up after you have finished could not be simpler, just remove the used pod or capsule from the machine and throw it away-there are no messy grounds to deal with. The cost per unit of coffee may be greater bought this way but if you are anything like me you will find that there may be less waste. I always seem to end up with excess wasted coffee when using the other two methods. For a small family or single person household the single cup makers may be the ideal choice, but if you need to make a large quantity of coffee all at once for a number of people it is not the best choice. A filter coffee drip maker may be a better choice for making a large number of cups at once.

All three types of coffee makers will do a great job in making an excellent cup of coffee and which one you choose is largely down to personal circumstances. Remember though the simpler the method used the less to go wrong! Perhaps like me you will end up owning all three types eventually and which one you use will depend on how much time you have and whether you are making one cup or several.
