Shouldn't MLB players be required to run the bases with whatever equipment they wear to the plate?

I know it's sacrilege to talk about speeding up the National Pastime, but the game is too slow and the games take too long. In addition to making the pitcher stay on the mound and the batter stay in the box, I think when batters wear armor into the batters' box - arm protection, leg protection, etc. - time out should not be granted just to allow them to take off this gear to run the bases. What do you think? And is baseball too slow?

I doubt it really "adds" all that much time. When hitter reaches base you are going to have some down time anyway for the next hitter to get to the plate, the ball to get back to the pitcher, etc.
And even if you were to say that it adds, let's say 30 seconds each time it happens, the average MLB game in 2011 had about 17 hits (both teams combined. So that may add about to 8 minutes or so, but again, most of it is down time anyway.

The other problem with having players wearing all that armor while running the bases is that it may put the defensive players in danger. Do you want a 240 lb player going full speed sliding in to your second baseman at full speed to break up a double play with kevlar on his legs?
I sure don't.

Your other ideas are very good though - get the pitchers to throw the damn ball and make the hitters stay in the box. That would speed things up tremendously.

As if filing for bankruptcy protection was not enough to fill American
Airlines plate, now a passenger is claiming the troubled airline killed her
husband.

According to the lawsuit, Raquel and Othon Cortes were on a flight to their
home in Miami and had just completed the first leg of their journey, a flight
from Barcelona to New York, when dinner was served. Othon chose the chicken,
Raquel chose something else, reports NewTimes.

On the ground at JFK it was apparent that something was wrong with Othon. He
became pale, had stomach cramps and was suddenly very thirsty, symptoms
consistent with food poisoning, in a typical time-frame.

Raquel told NewTimes that as they boarded the flight from JFK to Miami, her
husband's illness was "expressed and obvious" to AA staff. Boarding anyway,
things took a turn for the worse quickly with Othon presenting nausea and
shortness of breath which preceded a heart attack. He was pronounced dead in
Norfolk, Virginia where the plane made an emergency landing, albeit too late.
